"Sporting Chance"

The central question in this partnership has been: "In what ways can a sportive environment positively contribute to learning activities?"

Therefore, the initiators established support centres at local sports venues for young, socially disengaged and underachieving people, in order to motivate them to study. Teachers had to create assignments that employ these ‘new' learning environments in a meaningful way. The involvement of local political authorities, as well as the use of ICT, contributed to the success of the project.

Within the Learning Partnership, new and old partners discussed opportunities and shared their findings and experience, in order to explore how the concept could be improved and applied for new target groups. Furthermore, a European network has been established and, by means of alternative approaches to teaching & learning, new learning chances for disadvantaged people, who had become disconnected from mainstream provision, have been created.

The partnership developed a concept comprising:

  • Advice for establishing local partnerships for using  respective sportive environments
  • a collection of "best practice" and innovative strategies of how to integrate sportive environments into the learning process
  • reports from different countries, where this concept has already been implemented
  • an analysis of the situation for respective target groups and the evaluation related
  • advice for using ICT.
