LINK INC

Fostering equity and inclusion of migrants and ethnic minorities in Work-based Learning

Experience gained through Work-based Learning (WBL) can help open doors to later jobs or is estimated to help keep youth unemployment rates lower than in peer countries (like e.g. in Austria with 9.0%), this is particularly true for countries that have not yet deeply implemented a dual education system.

This is confirmed by a recent Cedefop report on labour market outcomes which shows that VET is more successful than general education at getting individuals into work in the short and medium terms. Nevertheless, despite the clear benefits of the WBL, the available evidence confirms that young immigrants and ethnic minorities rarely have the same chances to access good training places in the apprenticeship system. (Matching economic migration with labour market needs in Europe, OECD/E.C 2014).

LINK-Inc project aims to increase the participation of migrants and ethnic minorities in WorkBasedLearning by equipping VET and In-company- teachers and mentors with new approaches to address cultural diversity in VET, intercultural competencies and the management of cultural diversity included.
