Support Family Business

According to the Final Report Overview of Family Business Relevant Issues by Kmu Forschung Austria (January 2009), conducted on behalf of the European Commission, across Europe about 70 % – 80 % of enterprises are family businesses. Their contribution to EU’s economy is of great importance given the fact that they account for about 40 % – 50 % of European employment, according to the same report. Yet, a gap has been spotted in literature which deals exclusively with Family Business and the special needs of a family business when it comes to providing scientific knowledge, methodological tools and applied best practices to train family and non-family members of the business and thus optimise the overall performance.

The Support Family Business project – with its project partners in Greece, France, Spain, Belgium, Bulgaria and Austria – works on offering five-modules in a MOOC on FAMILY BUSINESS & SPECIAL CHARACTERISTIS, SUCCESSION, THE ROLE OF WOMAN IN THE FAMILY BUSINESS, CORPORATE GOVERNANCE & FAMILY GOVERNANCE MECHANISMS (FGM), and FAMILY BUSINESS STRATEGY. A Toolkit will attribute with a presentation of successful examples, good practices and the highlights of the theory.
