TOLEW - Training of Low Educated Workers for Productivity Growth
In this Leonardo project, "Basic Skills for Work" (2004-2007/coordinated by BEST) is being transferred to Turkey
Starting point of this project is the fact that low productivity rates do affect the competitiveness of enterprises in the region of Kastamonu(Northern Turkey). Previous research confirmed that the education level of workers in cleaning, wood working and construction sectors in the region (especially regarding technical and communicative competences) is insufficient.
Construction and cleaning sectors of the region are growing fast due to actual economic development. Nevertheless, labour force capacity is not growing in the same rate as economy itself. Therefore, the project aims at eliminating this discrepancy and provides workers of the region with better education, in order to raise productivity and competitiveness. Moreover, the cooperation between Education and Economy, as well as with enterprises, shall be enhanced.
In this project, 100 workers of the above mentioned sectors from the region will be selected and trained both theoretically and practically. Trainings will include basic skills and information and communication technologies. These 100 people will subsequently increase the project's positive effects by transferring their knowledge to other workers in their own enterprises.
The main products of the project will be
- Handbooks
- Teaching materials
- Information Seminars
